DIY: Painted Kitchenware

Good Morning! It's another dreary morning here in the Northeast, but I thought that we could brighten it up with a little pop of color for your kitchen! I originally found this idea over at House of Earnest, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to try it myself!

To make these, I picked up some wooden utensils at Bed Bath and Beyond (for under $5!), shellac spray at Lowe's (for under $10!) and used acrylic paint, a paintbrush and painter's tape that I already had at home.

First, I taped off where I wanted each painting line to be. You can make yours longer, but I wanted to be able to grip more wood than paint, so I only painted the top half of each handle.

Then, I painted each piece, setting it to dry and then painting a second coat once the first had dried.

After everything was dry, I took my kitchenware outside, and sprayed the shellac spray over the painted parts of each piece to create a nice glossy look.

I absolutely love this pop of color in our kitchen and it was such an easy project! I can't wait to use our new salad tongs (green) and the rest of the new pieces as I cook through this Spring and Summer!

As with all wooden utensils, these should be handwashed, and if at time paint was to chip, it can always be easily re-touched and re-sprayed. I think this is a great addition to any kitchen and would work well as a bridal shower or housewarming present!
