My Turn to Pop the Question {Wedding Wednesday}

Happy Wedding Wednesday! This week has been such an awesome week for getting wedding things accomplished! First, we took our engagement pictures on Sunday, and right now we're currently in the final stages of getting contracts in place for our hotel room block and band! And I made my dress shopping appointments for the last week in August - I'm so excited! But, even more exciting than that is the focus of today's Wedding Wednesday post ... asking my bridesmaids!

Long before Josh popped his question (and before I said yes), I knew that when it was my turn, I wanted to get really creative. I spent hours on Pinterest - even going so far as to create a SECRET BOARD for ideas so that none of my future bridesmaids might stumble upon my creative process. 

It's no longer a secret board - so feel free to head on over to it to get some ideas of your own from the fabulous sites I pinned! I pinned quite a few ideas, and brought a few of them together, and also included a few special touches of my own. Each box included a dressed up bottle of champagne, information for the girls, and a card telling them how much they each mean to me - and the all important question in that card.

I got the idea to sparkle the bottle of champagne from this photo on Style Me Pretty - and just followed my own instincts as I put it together. In order to make your own sparkled champagne bottles, you'll need to get a bottle (or bottles) of champagne, mod podge, a sponge brush, painter's tape, and of course - glitter!

I covered the kitchen table in paper so that the clean up would be easy, and I got work! First, I cleaned off the outside of the bottles with water to give me a clean surface to work with.

Then, I taped off the top so that I would only get glitter where I wanted it to go - and not anywhere else.

Using the sponge brush, I applied mod podge to the bottle - below the blue tape - and then poured glitter all over it. I did this one bottle at time so that the mod podge didn't dry before I had the chance to add glitter.


After my first coat, I let it dry for about 30 minutes to be on the safe side, and then I repeated the mod podge and glitter. After two coats - they were perfectly covered!

I let them dry for another 30 minutes before spraying a thin coat of shellac over each bottle to seal it.

The shellac didn't perfectly seal all of the glitter to the bottle, but I liked the extra shine it added and it worked well for my purposes. I let the shellac dry for about 30 minutes while I worked on the boxes before putting the bottles into the boxes.
I got the boxes at Hobby Lobby - where they didn't have 5 of any one type of box. So instead, I bought 3 square and 2 oval to mix it up a bit. In each box I added crinkle paper and used white to allow the glittered bottles to pop a little bit more. 


I created a bed with the paper for each bottle to sit on - an extra cushion so that it wouldn't break! Then, I added cards I made with information on them, and the bottle!

To close the box, I placed the cards underneath the bottle at a curve and then placed the lid on each box and attached a card with each girl's name to the outside of her box. Each card had a special and personal message to each girl inside and at the bottom of each one, popped the question: WILL YOU BE MY BRIDESMAID? And, in one case, WILL YOU BE MY MAID OF HONOR?

I asked 5 girls to be in my wedding party but you only see four boxes here because one box was hand delivered about 3 weeks before they were all finished and mailed out. I wrapped them in lots of bubble wrap and sent them on their way!


Each girl said yes and I am so very, very lucky to have this amazing group of girls who are going to stand by side as I marry Josh. To be truthful, Josh and I are both incredibly lucky to have such wonderful friends (and family!) who want to help us make this day special.
