Last fall, when I first started this blog, I threw together a small tutorial on how to make paint chip coasters. Since then, those coasters have taken a little bit of abuse - we use them every single day - and they could use some sprucing up. Eventually I'll get around to doing this sprucing up, but in the meantime, I thought I'd make some brand new coasters - chalkboard ones!
To make these, I stopped by Lowe's and picked up 4 new tiles. I also grabbed a new paint roller (for only $1.97). You'll also need primer, chalkboard paint, and a small paintbrush.
First, prime your coasters and allow 30 minutes to an hour to dry. To do this, I used my new roller because I was working on another project at the same time and it made it easy to prime both projects at once.
Then, paint coasters with your chalkboard paint in 2 to 3 coats, waiting 4 hours between each coat.
Then, per the instructions on the chalkboard paint can, wait 3 days before writing on your newly created chalkboard surface. Follow the instructions for priming - using the side of your chalk, rub it all over the suface and then wipe it off.
And then - voila! - your very own chalkboard coasters! You can number them, add names or even write love notes to your favorite person!
I love coasters and I love creating chalkboards on all different surfaces.
This is a fun, easy and inexpensive way to add a creative element to your home decor! And it's a great way to enjoy your morning coffee or a cup of chamomile before you head to sleep.
Do you have favorite coasters? I have another great coaster tutorial coming in a few weeks - and I'll be re-doing the original ones - so be on the lookout for those! Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Not sure how I got here (maybe from a comment on YHL) BUT this is a great idea on re-purposing all the sample tiles I have been collecting for my kitchen reno!!! Serendipity!
