DIY: "Metal" E-A-T

Do you read Young House Love? If you don't, you definitely should - Sherry and John write about their DIY adventures as they work on their second home. Sherry's a Jersey girl, like me, and she and John are always doing the most awesome things. Back in January, Sherry created a challenge for herself, the Dude, Get On That Already Challenge, and I have decided to join her!

These have been sitting on my craft shelves since the beginning of December:

I had originally planned to wrap them in yarn, or maybe paint them a bright yellow or something equally cheery, but then it came to me ... they obviously needed to be spray painted. So, I broke out my amazing Krylon metallic spray paint, took my letters outside, and started spraying.

After a few light coats (above photo is after the first coat), I had beautiful "metal" letters, and a great reminder of this fun project on my project board.

After letting them dry to the touch for approximately 15 minutes, I brought them inside and set them up in the kitchen, resting them on the small "ledge" above the counters.

I absolutely love these letters and I love how the metallic looks in the kitchen. Do you have any letters up in your house? How did you dress them up? Will you join me in Sherry's little self-imposed challenge? I'm looking forward to taking care of some projects that have been hanging around my craft area for awhile now!

PS. I'm linking up to parties at DIY by Design, Handy Man Crafty Woman, and Made In a Day.

  1. Those letters look great in the kitchen! I love reading YHL and your spray paint reminds me of Sherry's obsession with orb!
