I'm Daring to... Give (Make?) Homemade Gifts!

Hello and Happy Tuesday everyone! This week, I am once again linking up to the NewlyWoodwards' amazing Dare to DIY Blog Party! For this week, Kim has dared us to give homemade gifts. Now, I am going to be giving some homemade gifts this year - ones that, if I do say so myself, are pretty beyond fantastic. They're filled with thought, extra care and will be loved by it's recipients (aka my Mom, Dad and Stepmom). I will be showing you these awesome gifts and detailing how I made them, but I just can't do it here quite yet because my wonderful family reads my blog and well, we wouldn't want to give the surprise away quite yet, would we? So, while I will be back the week after Christmas with that fantastic tutorial, without further ado, here is my contribution to this week's Dare to DIY:

This is a simple and easy DIY gift - Sugar Scrub! As I'm not actually gifting this to anyone this year, I didn't package it up for giving, but all you need to do so is a mason jar and then some ribbon and cardstock to wrap and label it. To make the scrub, you only need TWO ingredients: sugar and olive oil.

Then, in your bowl mix 1 cup of sugar with 4 tablespoons of olive oil. As you mix it, you'll see the olive oil being absorbed throughout the sugar. I use a spoon to mix this, but you could definitely also use a fork. If you want to make more or less of the scrub, know that for every half cup of sugar, you need 2 tablespoons of olive oil. After the two ingredients are finely mixed, voila! - you have your homemade sugar scrub!

This is a great (and easy and inexpensive) gift to give. It can be used all over the body and it keeps for awhile. Its a wonderful exfoliator and leaves your skin feeling extra smooth.

What about you? Will you be giving any homemade gifts this year? I'd love to hear about your ideas if you have them as, of course, I am always on the look out for more fun DIY projects!!!

PS. I also linked up to blog parties over at It's a Blog Party!, Chef in Training, Confessions of a Stay at Home Mommy, and Mommy by Day, Crafter by Night.

  1. This sounds wonderful! And I would imagine you could also add essential oils to give it a little extra scent.

    Thanks for linking up!

  2. What a great idea!
Last year I gave bath salt and oatmeal face masks as gifts and they were a big hit. I wish I thought of sugar scrub to go along with it!
